Who was the most decorated Cub Scout of all time?

I did say Cub Scout, not Boy Scout, Venture Crew Member, nor Girl Scout.

My kid just completed all 20 Webelos Badges as a Webelo Two in the Bay Lakes Council (Central Northern Wisconsin, AKA Green Bay), with a little over 4 months to go, I commented after the pack meeting, “Thats gotta be a record”., I was met with polite laughter,by a District Commissioner, and informed that Shane was not even close…So, who was the most decorated Cub Scout of all time?

The fact that your son completed all 20 Webelo’s Badges should never be understated, I shall assume your son Shane has already completed the Webelo’s Badge, the Compass Patch, with arrow points, and the Arrow of Light, if I am mistaken, please forgive me.

The most decorated Cub Scout of all time, is still a Scout (Boy Scout) and also lives within the Bay Lakes Council area, but is registered as a Lone Scout to the Hiawathaland Council Troop 526 (Michigan’s Upper Peninsula). This leads me to believe that the Commissioner you were talking to is a Mr. Courtney Cozzens. When my son moved to Sheboygan, he missed his cross-over, so we took the whole Pack down to Green Bay, and to keep it a surprise, his mother brought him to the Green Bay duck conservatory. Mr. Cozzens performed the cross-over.

Thomis M. ( I spelled his name correct, it’s not a typo,(T-H-O-M-I-S, this is the Arabic spelling of Thomas) will turn 12 November 20th fo 2008. He was a member of Cub Scout Pack 526, Hiawathaland Council in Iron Mountain, Michigan from June of 2002, to February of 2006.

In 2005, Thomis, and three other Bear Cub Scouts (Thomas H., Johnathan L. and Austin C.) became the first Cub Scout Den since 1967 to be awarded the Cub Scout Rank of Lion, alphabetically, Thomis M. became the last of the Lions. These santioned patches were handed out by Hiawathaland Council Commissioner Dewey Jones.

Thomis M. earned his Tiger Patch with 4 yellow discs in 2003, Wolf patch with Gold Arrow Point and Silver Arrow Point in 2004,, Bear Patch with Gold Arrow Point and 18 Silver Arrow Points, as well as the Lion Patch with Gold Arrow Point and 5 Silver Arrow Point in 2005. Completed all 20 Webelos Activity Badges, earned the Compass Patch with three compass points, Webelos Badge on his 9th Birthday, and the Arrow of Light 100 days later.

In addition to the normal ranks, Thomis has completed all 40 of the Sports and Academic Belt Loops, and Sports and Academic Pins, so as many as 5 times. Perfect attendance pins 4 years in a row, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 year service pins. The Leave No Trace Award, World Conservation Patch, Whittlers Chip Card and Patch. served as Denner and Assistant Denner 5 years in a row, The Summertime Pack Activities Award in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006. Summer Outdoors Activity Patch with 4 wolf track pins. Took 3rd Place or better at all 5 Pinewood Derby Races, 5 popcorn sales patchs, Good Turn for america Patch with rockers for 2004, 2005, and 2006, and was a member of the National Den Award in 2005 and 2006.

In 2005, Thomis and 2 other den members learned that the Pack 526 unit flag had been stolen from the church they met at, and took it upon themselves to raise funds to replace it via recycling, which they did, and also purchased den flags for all units in Pack 526, as well as 22 flag pins for those who were involved in the flag raising. In 2006, Thomis and another den member learned of a Boy Scout from Hermansville Michigan Troop 578 with 2 million dollars in medical bills, and once again started recycling and raised almost $800 to help out. When asked by District 5 Commissioner why he was helping a scout from so far away, this 9 year old responded, “It does not say Iron Mountain anywhere on my shirt, It says Boy Scouts of America.”.

When Katrina struck, the den leader started recieving calls from parents, they wanted to know if he was holding a den meeting because all three boys left the house in uniform. They were found an hour later going door to door collecting returnable cans for Katrina victums, and had raised $400, with no parental involvement.

The recycling operation that the boys started in 2005 still continues today as the Lions Den Recycling Project, Thomis M. has earned 4 Bronze, 3 Silver, and 3 Gold Presidential Volunteers service awards in the field of recycling.

In 2005, the Order of the Lion was created by the Den leader to thank, ‘Those who have made a difference in the lives of Americas Youth Groups’, Thomis was recognized in 2005 with Youth Group Member Gold, and in 2007 as Vollunteer Gold, the only person ever to be recognized twice.

In 2006 while his father was taking the Cubmaster Training course, Thomis decided to see how well he would do, and completed the Cubmasters Course, Tiger Den Leaders Course, Den Leaders Course, Webelos Den Leader Course, Youth Protection Course, the Boy Scout Water Front Course, and the Boy Scout Safety Afloat course, beating his father on the last two.

While visiting in Iron Mountain in February of 2008, Thomis was officially recognized by the Scouting organization by being made the Cubmaster For The Day, and was handed a certificate signed by The Charter Representitive, the Cubmaster, the District Commissioner, the Council Commissioner, and the Pack Committee Chair, and he presided over the 2008 Blue and Gold Banquette, including the Crossover ceremony of the Webelos II’s who became Boy Scouts that day.

I’m thinking that Thomis is the most decorated Cub Scout of all time. He can be spotted about 1 minute into this You-tube clip. he is the only scout in uniform, this was taking during the fundraiser for the injured boy scout, the boys had collected so many cans, they were running out of room, and this was the solution they came up with.
