Hiking Program Announcement
Parents - As children, do you remember the areas around Yorkville being so built up? Do you remember spending hours and hours running or riding your bikes along hidden trails or through vast acres of untouched woodland and fields without a care in the world?
All around us, our environment is constantly changing and being developed. Roads are getting busier making it more and more unsafe for our children to ride their bikes other than just within our local neighborhoods. Video games and TV programs are enticing kids to stay in doors rather than running around outside burning up their endless reserves of energy.
Hiking provides exercise and interest for people of any age. Just getting out and walking around is a wonderful way to see nature and to explore what natural countryside still remains tucked away behind the vast sub divisions and shopping areas which have sprung up seemingly over night around us.
Each month, our Hiking Program will go out and explore the many trails, which are hidden around our local area. We shall explore areas along the Illinois and Fox Rivers, the Illinois & Michigan Canal, our State Parks, our vast forest preserves and other areas of protected land.
Initially the hikes will be kept to between 2 and 5 miles in length and over easy to moderate terrain. As the boys (and parents) increase in strength and stamina, the hikes will gradually become more challenging. As with all physical activities, there are risks associated with hiking. Please take a moment to read the following safety rules and guidelines each of us should follow to ensure that we all have safe and fun hikes.
OurSixth Hike will be
Saturday Apr. 24th Starved Rock.
