How does the boy scout organization make money?
Well, girl scouts sell cookies but boy scouts never come to my door trying to sell something. This is why I ask, how do boy scouts afford to do anything?

The organizations of the BSA and the GSUSA are a little different. Each Boy Scout unit is sponsored by a civic group such as a church, school, club, or other organization, whereas the Girl Scouts are under the direct supervision of the Girl Scout Council. The money raised from selling GS cookies goes to the Council. Boy Scout units have individual fund raisers, and use the money for their programs. Some money is given to the local BSA Council to support the camping facilities, provide modest salaries for the professional Scouters, and to maintain the service centers. Boy Scout units sell popcorn, have ‘white elephant’ sales, do car washes, and just about any other type of fund raiser you can think of. However, BSA rules restrict the boys from wearing the uniform when they do the fundraiser, so that it does not give the appearance of the BSA corporation endorsing the product used for the fundraiser. Scout popcorn is one of only a very select few items Scouts are able to wear the uniform during sales. This may be why you aren’t aware that it is a Scout group doing the fund raising.
