getting a scholarship for American football?

i am living in America currently with a visa. I’m a sophomore with decent grades and go to a top 200 public school in America. this year 8 people from our schools football team have gotten offers for full rides for colleges. i have never played football for a school before, but one of the seniors with a full ride has offered to try and train me to be a lineman, saying it will be interesting to see how an Englishman will do in football. so far i’ve been told that id probably be able to get atleast a partial scholarship, and my friend who is a kicker has been told by a scout that he will have his eye on him his Jr and senior year. but since next year will be my first year in football, I’m Automaticly on the JV team due to school policy. is it possible to get a scholarship and get noticed in your senior year? or do most people get noticed their Jr?

This smells bad from the very beginning.
You’re being grossly mislead –

An American Football scout is Pro ball.
Colleges use recruiters based on talent.
Typically the player or his coach contacts the recruiter…

NO recruiter would EVER make empty promises or even talk to a kid AT the school.
When I was recruiter that was against NCAA rules.

You are NOT on a JV team if you are a Senior – JV and Varsity are not skills sets, they are based on class. Junior and Senior class athletes are Varsity.
IF a lower class man is a stellar athlete and could benefit the Varsity, he can be moved up. But upperclassmen are NOT moved down.

So, to get to your real questions…
Is it possible to be noticed your Senior year….?
I guess it isn’t impossible…most “unused” or “unassigned” scholarships are going to be used one way or the other…
I’d hate to be the one to say it’s impossible only to have you prove me wrong.

One thing you can do is look at Div 2 or 3 colleges for incentives and or benefits:
examples are “dorm” or “meal ticket” or a campus job.

As pointed out by another respondant, you can also qualify for other types of scholarships and grants: you’ll need to first identify the schools you would consider attending and why…
