What are the training requirements for all cub scout leader ranks?
I am looking on the web for a list of all the leader training requirements for each cub scout rank. Every page I see has some general requirements ie. New Leader Essentials and Leader Specific Training. But, I would like to know what the classes are called and have them listed by Leader Rank (Wolf Leader, Bear Leader). I would also like to know what insignia is awarded to the leader after completing each training course. If a book or page were avaiable that looked just like the Cub Scout Handbook with check boxes to show the requirement was complete, that would be perfect! If anybody knows a website that is easy to read and makes all this stuff understandable, please answer. Thank you in advance!
The training process is as follows:
All leaders view the Fast Start video appropriate for their program (Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, or Venture), attend Youth Protection Training (or view it online) and attend New Leader Essentials, which is the same for all programs. Then they complete the Leader Specific Training for the job that they have. For Cub Scouting, the Leader Specific Training is Tiger Cub Leader, Cub Scout Den Leader and Asst. (for Wolf and Bear), Webelos Den Leader and Asst., Cubmaster and Asst., and Pack Committee Members. After completing training for your job you receive a “trained” strip to wear under your position patch. If you change roles you should attend the leader specific training for your new role (ex: if you go from being den leader to cubmaster, you attend the cubmaster training). You do not need to attend New Leader Essentials again. Some other insignia can be earned by adults (the various knot recognitions) that require training as part of the process, but also require other things in addition to the training. You may want to check out this website, but if you are still confused I would encourage to attend your roundtable meeting and ask to speak with your District Training Chair, he or she should be able to answer any questions you have.
There is an advanced leader training course for adults called Wood Badge, which requires that you complete the basic training for your position before taking the course. Upon completing all the Wood Badge requirements you receive a special neckerchief, slide (or “Woggle”) and a pair of wooden beads on a leather thong.
